Gallery: The launch of the WX1
Sunday marked the beginning of a new bus network for West and Northwest Auckland which included the new WX1 route.
On Sunday, November 12 Auckland Transport Launched a new bus network for West and Northwest Auckland, NZ Transit Buzz went out and about to check out some of the core sections of this new network the 11, 14 & WX1.
We began at Henderson Station and found some way finding has been updated but some stops still have out-of-date way finding.

After departing Henderson Station on an electric 14 bus we headed down Lincoln Road toward the new interchange. At the Lincoln Road interchange, there are large way finding signs, AT staff were on site handing out flyers with information on the new network.

At 7:32am we arrived at Queen Street for a roughly 25-minute journey, while the journey was relatively smooth the bus got caught at several traffic lights in the city which slowed the journey right down even for early on a Sunday.
We stopped for a brief drinks break before making our way to Lower Albert Street where the WX1 begins its Westgate-bound journeys, one can now go from NX1 to WX1 just by crossing the road.

After leaving Lower Albert Street at 8:10am with very light traffic we made the almost 29-minute return journey to Westgate arriving around 8:40am.

Most of the trips were fairly hiccup-free it seems bus tracking didn’t appear to be working for a number of the routes in the AT app and also at Bus Stops with most services just showing as ‘Scheduled’.

Friend of NZ Transit Buzz Darren Davis reported that onboard stop announcements didn’t seem to be working either for the routes he was taking.
To wrap out the WX1’s first day of operation there was a brief interruption to normal service in the afternoon due to a march taking place in the city centre.
This concluded our journey for the first day of WX1 operation, below are some extra photos taken during the trip.
