On a hot Sunday afternoon locals welcomed electric trains to Pukekohe.
After 2 years 5 months and 20 something days on a hot Sunday afternoon Auckland Transport, Auckland One Rail, KiwiRail, the Transport Minister and other dignitaries held an official event to welcome trains back to Pukekohe Station.
While trains do not start officially running until 5:11am on Monday, the public got an early look at the station and a few trains on Sunday morning, Shaun Baker from Multi Modal Adventures managed to snap a few photographs during the open day.
After the public departed those with invites made their way to Platforms 3-4 (previously 1-2 of the old station) to hear from the various parties CEOs, local leaders and well as the transport minister, there was much praise regarding the work that had gone into the station and how much work was to come with the opening of the CRL but after that there was a celebratory run to Papakura to christen the line.
Below are some photographs and videos from the open day as well as the media event and run between Pukekohe and Papakura.
