SWANSON | 17km (direct line) from Britomart Station, the terminus for Auckland’s Western Line and holding the title of the westernmost and northernmost serviced train station in the Auckland Region.

Nestled amongst a scenic landscape Swanson Station opened on July 18, 1881, over the years the station has seen a few changes with station buildings coming and going over the years.
One of the key additions was the station building which was relocated from Avondale in 1995 and is now home to the busy and popular Swanson Station Cafe which leases part of the building and deck with the revenue going back into a maintenance fund for the station building.

In more recent years a crew room has been constructed on platform 2 for staff to take breaks between services, the structure compliments the design of the station building.

In Swanson’s early days, it became a service centre for kauri logging and gum-digging trades, since then the area’s population has grown significantly between the 1920s and 1980s, it rose from 500 to almost 2,000 residents.
In around 2015/16 a large housing development was constructed adjacent to the station between Christian Road and Pooks Road greatly expanding the station's catchment, further expansion is on the cards with another development near Yozin Road.

The station has a small walkable catchment with data from the 2018 Census showing -700 people within a 10-minute walk of the station.
Nearby local amenities include the Redwood Park Golf Club, Crystal Mountain and on the first Sunday of each month, the Swanson Market takes over the station’s car park for locals to sell their wares.

The future for Swanson Station remains quiet with no currently planned developments or improvements planned at this stage, there was a proposal to run a Swanson-Waitākere Diesel shuttle service where an extra platform would have been required but this plan has not proceeded.
Just past the station, there is a proposal to remove the O'Neills Road pedestrian level crossing, Auckland Transport is undertaking assessment work at this point, although it is likely the level crossing will be removed.
