PANMURE | 9.4km (direct line) from Waitematā Station (Britomart), the original station was built as part of the Westfield Deviation & was situated about 300m south of the present-day station.
The old station had dwindling passenger numbers due to poor connections to Panmure township and it was decided to close the station and move it to a new location closer to Panmure which occurred in 2007.
When the station was moved the platforms were reconstructed as side platforms with basic infrastructure in the standard then MAXX (now AT) style, in 2014 the station received a major upgrade as part of the Eastern Busway works transforming it into a bus & train interchange.
Much of the area around the present-day station is industrial sites or park-and-ride for the station, there are a few local features including the Skateland Roller Skating Rink, Maungarei / Mount Wellington & The Y Lagoon Pool and Leisure Centre.
The station is fairly well connected and has improved further since the construction of the Eastern Busway which connects train users with frequent buses just a short walk from the station’s exit, there is also a short shared path at the citybound exit of the station.
In recent years several large industrial sites have closed their doors and faced the wrecking ball, which include the Masport site and the NCI Packaging site, Simplicity Living has plans to develop the old NCI site into a 297 apartment complex.
The station has room for expansion, when the station was redeveloped in 2014 and nearby roads were rebuilt space was left for future train lines and space was also left beside the station & platforms for the tracks.
Despite the station only being recently redeveloped in 2014, during Stage 2 of the Rail Network Rebuild Auckland Transport installed HOP fare gates and AT converted the former coffee hut into a bus driver rest area.
